General Information

As part the Viva Florida Celebration, the Florida Department of State provided each of the 67 counties a time capsule to collect items unique to the respective communities. Counties are given the latitude to determine what goes into the time capsule, where it will be located in the community, when to seal it, and when to open it.

Once sealed, the Leon County Viva Florida Time Capsule will be put on display at the Leon County Courthouse.

The Leon County Viva Florida Time Capsule Committee will make recommendations to the County Commission on contents of the time capsule, the date to seal the time capsule, and the date it will be opened in the future.

Committee Information/Materials

The Leon County Board of County Commissioners created the Leon County Viva Florida Time Capsule Committee with the responsibility of leading the effort of recommending and collecting the items for the time capsule. Additionally, the Committee is charged with gathering public input on determining the appropriate items that capture the events, policies, art literature and technology that shape the community.

The Time Capsule Committee is comprised of seven Leon County citizens representing a cross section of the community. Generally the Committee meets twice a month and all meetings are open to the public. The Committee is expected to make its recommendations to the County Commission in September 2013.
