Water Resources

Summary & Connection

North Florida’s unique water system is very close to the land surface and susceptible to contamination from runoff in rain events. Clean water is primarily important for public health and is also important for agriculture and Florida’s economy. Beaches, rivers and lakes are the number one vacation choice for Americans, and much of what happens around the water is a $380 billion dollar industry, and the nations second largest employer, employing 6 million Americans1. Educating the community with pollution-prevention strategies is the best way to preserve these waters and the beauty of the landscapes. Leon County is dedicated to protecting Leon County’s liquid assets, and is looking into implementing innovative water conservation strategies.
