Thank you to all the residents who came to the annual compost bin sale, sponsored by Leon County Recycling and the City of Tallahassee Solid Waste, on Saturday and Sunday, April 25 & 26, 2009 at the Tallahassee Mall.
We anticipated selling out, but did not anticipate the overwhelming, positive response. We are thankful for your patience and understanding as we all waited for another truckload to arrive from Toronto, Canada!
This weekend we sold 1,824 Earth MachineTM Bins! If each of these families composts 600# of yard and kitchen waste in the coming year, they will divert 1,094.400 pounds of organic matter from going into the landfill! Combine this with the 3,500 families already home composting (from previous years' sales) and that total jumps to 3,194,400# of organic waste being diverted!
Incredible, isn't it? Think of the landfill space being saved, harmful lawn chemical run-off being prevented, and think of the healthy and gorgeous garden you will have by using the homemade compost in your own yard.
It's a beautiful thing!
