Education of the public is an integral part
of an organized mosquito control program. Residents must have
a good understanding of mosquitoes, the benefits realized from
their control and the role that they can play in preventing certain
mosquito-borne diseases.
While it is common for this education to take
the form of announcements in the general media, it often better
for control programs to develop comprehensive educational programs.
These educational programs can be designed to meet the needs of
the community. People who are informed about mosquito biology
and control measures are more likely to mosquito-proof their homes,
and eliminate mosquito breeding places on their own property.
Below are several of the educational outreach
programs available from Leon County Mosquito Control.
Mosquito Hawk
Education Program - Focuses on educating fourth graders
at all city and county elementary schools.

they can do around the home and what Leon County Mosquito Control
does to control mosquitoes.

problems before they start by checking and treating drains and
catch basins on school property.
