Education plays a primary role in the integrated
pest management program used by Leon County Mosquito Control.
The purpose of this web site is to provide information about mosquito
biology, diseases, protection measures and education resources.
This information will empower residents and allow them to take
proactive measures to reduce their mosquito problems. Listed below
is a description of the six sections of this web site.
Protective
Measures: This section contains
information about methods to protect yourself from mosquitoes.
These include personal protection, source reduction, chemical
control and biological control.
Mosquito
Biology: This section discusses
the life cycle of the mosquito, various habitats and species
commonly found in Leon County. Also included is a list of useful
links to additional information about mosquitoes.
Diseases: This section discusses the typical
disease cycle and surveillance methods used for Eastern Equine
Encephalitis and West Nile Virus. Also included is information
about several other diseases transmitted by mosquitoes.
School
Program: This section
discusses Leon County Mosquito Control's elementary school
education program. It includes program outline, copy of activity
book, school video and more.
Outreach
