Young Adult Fiction Reviews

If you're looking for Young Adult Fiction Suggestions, we have some review or summaries our staff has written which might lead you to try some tales you might not know about.

  • Hughes, Monica . . . Invitation to the Game (1990)
This tale is a wonderful example of sociological science-fiction. A group of eight (eventually ten) young people graduate from school in a future earth with lots of problems.  Their cooperative efforts to learn to live together pay off when they're invited to play a complicated "Game" of virtual reality. Eventually, they find that this game has real significance, and it's their skills and talents that give them a place in trying to help humankind survive.  Hughes does a great job of fiving individual personalities to each member of a lage cast of characters, and the story is thought-provoking and involving. If you like science fiction, you should definitely enjoy Invitation to the game. [Gary Crew]
