Interlibrary Loan Policy
-
Interlibrary loan services are available to all holders
of valid library cards.
-
The library will not process interlibrary loans for
students who are enrolled in local universities or colleges. These patrons
will be referred back to their schools to request interlibrary loans for
education-related materials.
-
Interlibrary loans are intended to supplement the
library’s collection by borrowing materials that the library would not
collect, materials that the library did not purchase in the past, and
materials that are no longer available for purchase.
-
All formats are eligible for interlibrary loan, including
books-on-tape, CDs and videocassettes.
Materials are requested in accordance with FLORIDA
LIBRARY INFORMATION NETWORK policy, with the closest geographical
locations being designated first.
Interlibrary loan is a courtesy provided by libraries to other
libraries. It is based on protocols and good will. Every effort is made
to obtain materials requested by our patrons. To maintain our borrowing
privileges with other libraries, all requests for interlibrary loan and
inquiries about the status of interlibrary loan requests must be made by
library staff.
PROCEDURE
-
There are no fees for these services unless the
lending libraries charge. The patrons give prior authorization for
any charges. All interlibrary loan charges are due when the
materials are picked up. The library makes every effort to obtain
materials from agencies that do not charge.
-
Interlibrary loan is not used for materials
published in the last year that would be appropriate for our
library. These materials are purchased and a hold is placed on them
rather than requesting them from another library.
-
The library does not request through interlibrary
loan: reference materials; titles in high demand; or materials that
the library owns.
-
The library processes 10 interlibrary loan
requests per patron per month. Additional materials may be requested
with the understanding that these requests are processed as workload
permits. Patrons are encouraged to prioritize multiple requests.
-
The library does not request the same title for
the same patron within a six-month period.
-
No interlibrary loan materials are checked out to
patrons who have overdue materials.
-
For periodicals and reference works, the library
handles requests for photocopies only. To request photocopies,
patrons must personally sign the copyright agreements and state the
amounts they are willing to pay. A zero amount may be designated
with the understanding that the requests may not be filled. Due to
copyright restrictions, in any one-year period, the library may only
borrow five articles from the same title. Faxing of materials from
other libraries may be available. Any charges from the lending
libraries are passed on to the patrons. Some items are designated as
room use only. These materials must be used in the library.
-
Patrons must pay replacement fee for unreturned
items as determined by lending library.
-
Repeated instances of patron failure to comply
with this policy will result in the loss of interlibrary loan
privileges.
