In the first fiscal year of the Library’s Long-Range Plan for
2010/2011 to 2012/2013, the Library will emphasize the six goals of the
Long-Range Plan by striving to meet the objectives outlined in the long-range
plan as well as the additional objectives listed for this Annual Plan. The six
goals are:

Stimulate Imagination;

Satisfy Curiosity and Offer Resources for
Decision-Making;

Connect to the Online World;
-
Create Young Readers and Support Success in School;

Support Adult Literacy and English-Language Study; and
-
Provide a Comfortable Place to Visit.
During this fiscal year, it is anticipated that all of the
planned expansions and Library buildings will be completed. Leon County will
add 28,000 square feet to its Library system. Library responsibilities, in
cooperation with Facilities and Management Information Services, will include
continuation of planning and procuring fixtures and furnishings and completion
of rearrangements and/or moves to new Library spaces. Anticipated completion
dates:

Expansion of the Dr. B. L. Perry, Jr., Branch
Library: late 2010

Expansion of the Northeast Branch Library: late
2010

Opening of the Woodville Branch Library: winter
2011

Opening of the Lake Jackson Branch Library: spring

Objective 1: Prepare to expand the Library system by
28,000 square feet.
Activity 1: Plan and procure furnishings for each
Branch. This includes planning spaces appropriate for adults, teens and
children and for the work of Library staff; planning the placement of
shelving for all formats; using existing and new furnishings to create
attractive, comfortable places for Library users to visit.
Activity 2: Plan and carry out rearrangements and
moves of materials and furnishings.
Activity 3: Order, catalog and process new
materials for all locations. Deliver materials to new locations and have all
materials in place for opening day.
Activity 4: Work with MIS in setting up computer
services.
Activity 5: Arrange fixtures and furnishings in
public and staff areas.
Activity 6: Plan, prepare and establish
circulation services.
Activity 7: Plan, prepare and establish
information and reference services.
Activity 8: Plan, prepare and establish services
for children and teens.
Objective 2: Working with county administration and
the Public Information Office, plan and carry out the grand openings for all
locations. Dates to be determined.
Objective 3: Plan the most efficient use of the
courier van and drivers so that each Branch Library receives daily or
twice-daily delivery service.
Objective 4: Host the Big Read, a “one book,
one county” reading program featuring The Things They Carried by Tim
O’Brien, funded by a grant received from the National Endowment for the Arts.
Grant announced July 8, 2010. Big Read events scheduled for October 9, 2010 to
November 11, 2010.
Objective 5: Working with MIS, prepare for online
participation in the Summer Reading Program for summer 2011. Online
participation to be available May 2011.
