Current Initiatives

  • Fuel Management System-Fuel management systems allow staff to track fuel consumption patterns with far greater accuracy. The County has acquired 229 units to be installed in vehicles. Efforts began with ambulances, and were followed by one-ton diesel trucks and will end with the remaining fleet. Upon installation of the system, fuel data information will analyzed to identify under-performing vehicles and possible inefficiencies caused by the operator. This will be followed by targeted maintenance or employee education in efforts to improve the vehicle performance for all county vehicles. The Fuel Management System will be installed on all applicable County fleet within Fiscal Year 2010.

  • Idle Reduction- Our community has expressed concerns toward developing state and local anti-idling policies. As a result, various community stakeholders have joined to build an anti-idling campaign from the ground up. Idle Free Tallahassee-Leon is a partnership between Leon County, City of Tallahassee, Leon County School Board, FSU, FAMU, TCC, Sustainable Tallahassee, DMS, DEP, Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, Capital Regional Medical, Yellow Cab, American Lung Association and the Leon County Sheriff’s Office. On August 25, 2009, both Leon County and the City of Tallahassee passed a resolution calling for a campaign to educate residents about the adverse impacts of unnecessary idling of motor vehicles and equipment and to urge residents to reduce or eliminate said practices. We have now passed an anti-idling policy for our fleet and have installed tracking devices to measure the idling time of certain vehicles within our fleet. The Campaign is asking individuals to take a pledge to reduce or eliminate unnecessary idling. To take the pledge and to learn more about unnecessary idling, please visit the City's website at http://www.talgov.com/eper/idlefreepledge.cfm.
