Current Initiatives

• Community Gardens: The community gardening concept is consistent with the principles of The Office of Sustainability as it helps provide a more sustainable, local source of food. In addition, community gardening helps to reduce the environmental impact associated with transporting food from areas located beyond the County’s region, reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Leon County. Currently we are working together with the County Extensions office to provide our community with an opportunity to participate in a local community garden. Per direction of the Board, staff has conducted a review of possible sites for community gardens on County owned property.
