Future Initiatives
- Building Automation System (BAS) – Building Automation Systems are used to monitor and control the mechanical / HVAC and electrical / lighting equipment in buildings. Multiple County building have BAS capabilities, some of which were installed at the time of building construction and other systems and components have been added over time. Staff is working to assess the current capabilities and status of these systems. Once the assessment is complete, staff will work with the BAS providers to validate that each system is fully functional and that County staff is able to maximum the BAS capabilities.
-
Dispatch Center - In April 2006, the County, City, and Sheriff agreed to the creation of a joint dispatch operation for public safety agencies. The Joint Public Safety Dispatch System includes the Leon County Sheriff, Leon County Emergency Medical Services, Tallahassee Police Department, and the Tallahassee Fire Department. Staff is currently working on integrating LEED attributes into the project in pursuit of certification.
- Lighting upgrades – The Office of Sustainability will study all county buildings for energy savings opportunities through lighting fixtures and controls and prioritize enhancements based on energy savings.
- Programmable thermostats – The Office of Sustainability is working on installing programmable thermostats at all county facilities. All thermostats will be programmed to dictate daily operating standards, which will in turn increase HVAC efficiency.
- EPA’s Energy Star certification – Through the Portfolio Manager software, Energy Star certification will be sought of qualified buildings. Enhancement of facilities not eligible will be focused on to achieve certification.
