 2011 Sustainable YOU Conference

Sustainable Florida will host the 2011 Sustainable YOU Conference on October 24th and 25th in Tallahassee, Florida sponsored by Leon County and the City of Tallahassee. The event will be held at the Augustus B. Turnbull Florida State Conference Center located at 555 West Pensacola Street.

The conference's main objective is to provide a broad understanding of sustainable best practices and principles through workshop sessions, panel discussions, and keynote speaker presentations.

The conference will feature national industry, corporate, and business sustainability experts, including Majora Carter, a National Urban Community Garden Leader; Mayor Bob Dixson of Greensburg, Kansas; and Joseph Tankersley, a Walt Disney Imagineer; among other sustainability leaders.

The 2011 Sustainable YOU Conference will feature:

  • Nearly 30 workshop sessions under the following four tracks: Leadership, Sustainability Professionals, Sustainability in Higher Education, and Sustainability 101.
  • Concurrent sustainability tours under the Growing Green, Greenovation, Green Tech in the City, and Renew, Reuse, Recycle tracks.
  • An exhibition highlighting corporate and local businesses.
  • An evening mixer and reception focused on local and sustainable fashion, food, and art.

Conference fees are $200 ($175 for participants affiliated with a non-profit/government group) and $50 for college students. Leon County and City of Tallahassee are offering a limited number of scholarships to residents and college students interested attending the Conference.

Scholarships

Residents
Leon County and City of Tallahassee are jointly providing a limited amount of scholarships to Tallahassee-Leon County residents who need assistance paying for the conference. The resident scholarship rate of $50 includes conference registration, full access to all workshops, plenary sessions, and the opening reception.

Those residents interested can apply by visiting the City of Tallahassee website at http://www.talgov.com/eper/sustainableyouconf.cfm. The scholarship application must be completed prior to registering for the Conference.  The application will be reviewed and if approved the resident will receive an email with a code that should be used when registering for the Conference.  The code is required to receive the discount rate.

Students
Leon County and the City of Tallahassee are jointly providing a limited amount of scholarships to full-time students who currently attend institutions of higher education and need assistance paying for the conference. The student scholarship rate of $25 includes conference registration, full access to all workshops, plenary sessions, and the opening reception.

Those students interested can apply by visiting the City of Tallahassee website at http://www.talgov.com/eper/sustainableyouconf.cfm.  The scholarship application must be completed prior to registering for the Conference.  The application will be reviewed and if approved the student will receive an email with a code that should be used when registering for the Conference. The code is required to receive the discount rate.
