Why?

• To reduce wildfire hazard by eliminating the accumulated fuels.

• Fire release nutrients that are trapped in the dead plant material.  With Prescribed burning these nutrients are available to the remaining plants much quicker than they would through decay.

• The amount of fuel for a fire that has built up is limited.  With a limited fuel supply, the fire is not as intense, therefore less damaging to plants and soil.

• The new growth of plants in the enriched soil also attracts wildlife.

• To improve aesthetics.
