The Office of Minority Health was implemented on

January , 2007 to eliminate disparities in Leon County through many Out Reach projects.

 The Goals for Office of Minority Health:

 Develop and implement programs to address the elimination of disparities in Leon County.

 What are Health Disparities?

Disparities are defined as unequal burdens in disease, morbidity and mortality rates experienced by ethnic/racial groups as compared to the dominant group.

(USDHHS, 2000)

Racial and Ethnic Populations

HHS identifies the following racial and ethnic minority groups:

• American Indian or Alaskan Native

• Asian

• Black or African American

• Hispanic or Latino

• Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander

• Immunizations

• Maternal Health
