Mock 911 Call

EMS crew members enact a mock 911 call involving a woman suffering from sudden cardiac arrest.

The bystander approaches the woman and calls 911.

Photo 2:

The EMS Controller alerts the nearest ambulance while the 911 call taker is instructing the bystander to check the woman's pulse and to see if she is breathing.  As the bystander waits for the ambulance to arrive, the call taker stays on the phone and continues to give pre-arrival instructions, including step by step CPR.

The paramedics arrive promptly and assess the situation.  Paramedic Brad Morris determines that the patient is suffering from cardiac arrest.  Paramedic Brett Davidson prepares the stretcher so the patient can be transported to the hospital as soon as possible.

The paramedics administer on-scene care to stabilize the patient before transport.  They use the portable defibrillator to shock the patient's heart so it will start beating again.

Paramedic Brett Davidson helps the patient breathe while Paramedic Terry Evans prepares the equipment for transport.

The paramedics secure the patient on the stretcher and load her into the ambulance, which will take her to the nearest hospital.

In a real situation, these steps, especially the Early CPR and Early Defibrillation, would significantly contribute to the woman's chances of survival.
