MANAGEMENT INTERN
Public Services/Intergovernmental Affairs/Management Internship Program
Salary $24,000 or $29,000 (Depending on qualifications; and includes full benefits)
Beginning Date of Internship: August 1, 2004
Ending Date of Internship: July 31, 2005

This is full-time professional management internship work for one year. The Management Intern assists the County Administrator and key senior management staff with program and policy development. The Management Intern receives specific to general direction, exercises discretion and independent judgment, conducts research, analysis, confers with staff and other stakeholders, and makes programmatic and administrative recommendations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The internship will consist of four concentrations that are each three months in length. First concentration: assists the County Administrator, Assistant County Administrator, and other staff with the implementation of County Programs, special projects, research and analysis. Independently conducts research and analysis. Confers with staff and external stakeholders. Prepares and presents oral and written reports. Second concentration: assists the Director of Human Resources/Risk Management with the development and implementation of the County’s Human Resources and Risk Management Programs. Independently conducts research and analysis. Third concentration: assists the Assistant County Administrator and other staff with the development and implementation of the County’s Adopted State Legislative Program and performs other public information and policy development activities. Researches, analyzes issues, and prepares reports. Serves as a liaison to the State Legislature. Attends and participates in state legislative meetings, conferences, and events. Assists staff with the identification and monitoring of legislation. Last concentration: assists the Director of the Office of Management and Budget with the development of the County’s proposed annual budget and other management and budget research and analysis projects. Researches and analyzes assigned division and program budgets. Prepares written and oral reports. Assists staff throughout the budget development process. Serves as liaison with County staff and external agencies.

REQUIREMENTS: Must have received a Master’s Degree in Public Administration or a similar field, within twelve (12) months prior to or before the start date of the Management Internship Program; or must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, Business, or a related field, and be currently enrolled as a graduate student (less than four courses away from earning a master’s degree) and be able to obtain a master’s degree before the ending date of the Management Internship Program. Must be in good standing at the attending university.
