Leon County Board of County Commissioners introduces the free prescription discount card to assist Leon County residents with the high price of prescriptions. The free prescription drug discount card is available under a program sponsored by the National Association of Counties (NACo) that offers average savings up to 24 percent off the retail price of commonly prescribed drugs. There is no cost to County taxpayers for NACo and Leon County to make these money-saving cards available to all residents.

There is no enrollment form, no membership fee and no restrictions or limits on frequency of use. The card may be used by all County residents regardless of age, income, or existing health coverage. County residents who have prescription coverage can save money by using the card for drugs that their health plan doesn’t cover. The program is especially beneficial for people who are underinsured or uninsured. Residents do not have to be in the Medicare program to participate.

Cardholders and their family members simply present the card at a participating pharmacy any time their prescriptions are not covered by insurance. More than 40 of Leon County’s pharmacies accept the free prescription discount card, and a national network of more than 59,000 participating retail pharmacies will also honor it.

In addition to these benefits, pet owners may also reap the benefits of the free prescription discount card. If your pet has been prescribed a medication, you may receive a discount on the medication by taking the prescription to a participating retail pharmacy.
