WHEREAS, in 1960, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed
that National Public Works Week would serve as an annual
reminder of the value of the contribution of public works’
professionals in all of our lives; and
WHEREAS, public works professionals have been
participating in events and activities to increase public
awareness and appreciation of the profession since that
time; and
WHEREAS, the Big Bend Branch of the American Public Works
Association is sponsoring the tenth annual "Road-e-o" at Tom
Brown Park on May 17th, to promote and recognize
our public works professionals; and
WHEREAS, the health, safety and comfort of our community
greatly depends on the services they provide to our
community; and
WHEREAS, the efficient operation of public works’
services and systems such as streets and highways, parks and
boat landings, engineering, stormwater, drainage, fleet
management, animal control, mosquito control and solid waste
collection and disposal need the support of Leon County
citizens; and
WHEREAS, this year marks the 110th Anniversary of Public
Works, an occasion to celebrate and appreciate all the work
these professionals do to improve the quality of life in
Leon County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF LEON COUNTY, FLORIDA that the week of May
15-21, 2005, be known as
PUBLIC WORKS WEEK
in Leon County, and the Board further
encourages all citizens to recognize and support the skill,
sacrifice and dedication of Leon County Public Works
employees.
