WHEREAS, historic preservation is an effective tool for
managing growth and revitalizing neighborhoods while
maintaining community character, enhancing livability,
promoting community pride and general quality of life; and
WHEREAS, historic preservation is relevant to communities
across the nation, both urban and rural, and for Americans
of all ages, all walks of life and all ethnic backgrounds;
and
WHEREAS, it is important to celebrate the role of history
in our lives by preserving the tangible aspects of the
heritage that has shaped us as a community; and
WHEREAS, "Restore America: Communities at a Crossroads"
is the theme for National Historic Preservation Month 2005,
cosponsored by the Tallahassee Trust for Historic
Preservation and the National Trust for Historic
Preservation
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF LEON COUNTY, FLORIDA that May 2005 be
hereby designated as
National Historic Preservation Month
in Leon County. We call upon the people of Leon County to
join their fellow citizens across the United States in
recognizing the importance of historic preservation and
participate in this special observance.
