WHEREAS, the American College of Emergency Physicians has
encouraged the recognition of Emergency Medical Services
professionals during the month of May 2005; and
WHEREAS, on December 31, 2003, Leon County government
assumed responsibilities of providing Emergency Medical
Services to all the people of Leon County; and
WHEREAS, the men and women of Leon County Emergency
Medical Services are skilled professionals who bring care
and comfort to people in need; and
WHEREAS, the members of emergency medical services teams
are ready to provide lifesaving care to people in distress,
24 hours a day, seven days a week; and
WHEREAS, access to quality emergency care dramatically
improves the survival and recovery rate of those who
experience sudden illness or injury; and
WHEREAS, the members of emergency medical services teams,
whether career or volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of
specialized training and continuing education to enhance
their lifesaving skills; and
WHEREAS, Leon County Emergency Medical Services personnel
are dedicated to Preserving Life, Improving Health,
and Promoting Safety for all Leon County citizens.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS of LEON COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the week of May
23rd, 2005, be hereby designated
EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK
in Leon County. The Board honors the
skill and recognizes the sacrifice of EMS workers in our
community. We call upon all citizens to join us in
expressing our thanks to all EMS workers, in all parts of
the EMS system, for protecting our lives, our health, our
safety, and for a continuing job well done.
