WHEREAS, Leon County residents promote and dedicate
themselves to philanthropy through the 1,093 charitable
organizations currently registered in Leon County; and
WHEREAS, Florida State University students logged more
than 180,000 recorded volunteer hours and TCC students
logged more than 8,938 recorded volunteer hours during the
2003-2004 school year; and
WHEREAS, T.K. and Virginia Wetherell are recognized for
their altruistic and selfless contributions to higher
education, notably the commitment to leave their $7.5
million Oak Hill Plantation to Florida State University,
which is the largest gift by a sitting collegiate president
in U.S. history; and
WHEREAS, the Association of Fundraising Professionals
seeks to provide professionals throughout North America with
opportunities to advance philanthropy, reflect on the
meaning of giving and all it has made possible; and
WHEREAS, the Big Bend chapter of the Association of
Fundraising Professionals seeks to honor local humanitarians
for their meaningful contributions to the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF LEON COUNTY, FLORIDA, that November 15 be
recognized as National Philanthropy Day and the week of
November 15 be recognized as
