LEON COUNTY RESOLUTION HONORING
MARY BROWN

DECEMBER 14, 2004

WHEREAS, Mary Brown began her public service career on October 6, 1971 at the Leon County Public Library, and ends her career as a Library Services Specialist on December 30, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Mary Brown has served the people of Leon County with distinction for thirty-three years, first in the Library’s Cataloging Department, the Bookmobile program, the Parkway Outlet, the Bond Community Library and Dr. B.L. Perry, Jr., Branch Library; and

WHEREAS, Fifteen of her years of service were spent not in the library building, but in a remote outpost known as the Parkway Outlet Bookmobile, parked first on the Apalachee Parkway near Magnolia Drive, then at Cross Creek Square at Capital Circle, where she distributed books and educational materials to children and adults who could not easily access the main library; and

WHEREAS, the Bookmobile service provided by Mary Brown was so successful and so well appreciated by the public, that her thoughtful public service will always be remembered as the forerunner of today’s satellite branch library system in Leon County; and

WHEREAS, Mary Brown has helped to establish the steady, caring and dependable customer service reputation that the LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library has become known for; and

WHEREAS, Mary Brown is an institution in the Leon County family, and her record of service and her endurance through the years will be long remembered as an example to us all.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF LEON COUNTY, FLORIDA, that, Tuesday, December 14, 2004 be known as

MARY BROWN DAY

in Leon County, Florida. We recognize that Mary Brown’s retirement represents a great loss to our library system, one that can never be replaced. On behalf of a grateful community, we commend Ms. Brown for her thirty-three years of dedicated and inspired service to the people of Leon County, and express our best wishes for an enjoyable and well-earned retirement.
