LEON COUNTY RESOLUTION HONORING
BETH LACIVITA

NOVEMBER 16, 2004

WHEREAS, Beth J. LaCivita is a former employee of Leon County, working in the administrative offices of the Division of Environmental and Engineering Services and the Division of Operations of Leon County’s Public Works Department; and

WHEREAS, after obtaining a Masters Degree in Public History with honors from Florida State University in 1986, Beth LaCivita served the public as an employee of the Divisions of Cultural Resources and Historic Preservation of the Florida Department of State, while volunteering personal time and energy outside her state jobs to promote historic preservation in Leon County; and

WHEREAS, Beth LaCivita joined the staff of the Historic Tallahassee Preservation Board in 1995, serving until its dissolution in 1997, and was the last acting Manager of the preservation board; and

WHEREAS, in 1998, Beth LaCivita helped transform the Tallahassee Trust for Historic Preservation into an independent not-for-profit corporation, dedicated to carrying on the work of the former preservation board and developing a public-private partnership with Leon County; and

WHEREAS, in her capacity as the Local Historic Preservation Officer for Tallahassee and Leon County, Beth LaCivita worked to achieve the creation of the Smokey Hollow National Register Historic District, the Myers Park/Country Club Estates Local Historic District, building height development standards to protect the character of the downtown historic districts, an increased awareness of the economic benefits of historic preservation to our community, along with many other achievements benefitting the citizens of Tallahassee and Leon County for generations to come; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEON COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS of LEON COUNTY, FLORIDA, that November 16, 2004 be hereby declaired

BETH J. LaCIVITA DAY

in Leon County, Florida, and that Ms. LaCivita is recognized and commended for her visionary service to the people of Leon County, and that she ends her tenure as Local Historic Preservation Officer with the sincerest thanks and gratitude of this Board and the entire community.
