WHEREAS, a sound natural environment is
the foundation of a healthy society and a robust economy;
and
WHEREAS, human activities around the
globe are causing severe environmental damage that threatens
human health and our planet's ability to sustain a diverse
community of life; and
WHEREAS, the technical knowledge of how
to live in harmony with our environment to accomplish this
end already exists; and
WHEREAS, local communities can help to
reverse environmental degradation and contribute to building
a healthy society by addressing issues such as energy use,
transportation, waste prevention, and sprawl; and
WHEREAS, Earth Day is an ideal time to
remind Leon County's citizens that they have earth-friendly
waste disposal options, such as recycling; and
WHEREAS, Leon County Recycling is
co-sponsoring a TALLAHASSEE RECYCLES FOR EARTH DAY event
along with other local businesses and organizations,
including Tri-Eagle Sales and the City of Tallahassee.
NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED BY
THE LEON COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS that April 22,
2003, be hereby declared
EARTH DAY
in Leon County, Florida. We express our
support for the TALLAHASSEE RECYCLES FOR EARTH DAY event at
the Capital Circle NE Home Depot on Saturday, April 26th,
from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and encourage citizens to
participate and join with us in our commitment to protecting
our community’s natural heritage and environment. Let us all
work together to build a sustainable society in our
community and in the world to preserve the gifts of our
natural environment for our children and our posterity
forever.
