WHEREAS, the quality of health care is
an important indicator of the quality of life in any
community, and
WHEREAS, Tallahassee Memorial
Healthcare provides top quality health care services to the
people of Tallahassee, Leon County and the surrounding
region, and
WHEREAS, Duncan Moore has served as
President and CEO of TMH since July of 1988, and will retire
from his post at TMH in June of 2003, after 15 years of
distinguished service, and
WHEREAS, Duncan Moore’s management
innovations at TMH have included the opening of an employee
child care center, the first of its kind in the region, and
the Caring Hands program, to promote excellence in patient
care and employee morale by encouraging and recognizing
superior employee performance, and
WHEREAS, Moore oversaw the construction
of the hospital Atrium to provide a central focal point and
expedite patient registration; expansion of the hospital
parking garage to enhance patient and visitor service, as
well as additional floors for physician offices and a new
outpatient Surgical Center; and construction of the new,
state of the art emergency medical services facility; and
also launched the Premier Health and Fitness Center and the
TMH Memory Disorder Clinic, and
WHEREAS, TMH was named among the
country's Top 100 hospitals in coronary angioplasty in 1999,
and, while under Moore’s direction, conducted its 100th
heart transplant, a milestone in our community, and
WHEREAS, Duncan Moore reached out to
neighboring communities by opening TMH Family Practice
facilities in Blountstown, Florida and in Wakulla County,
Florida, and;
WHEREAS, in 1996 Moore was recognized
as Florida's Outstanding Healthcare Executive by the
American College of Healthcare Executives for establishing
the TMH Cardiac Electrophysiology Program which helps
diagnose and treat cardiac rhythm disorders.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF LEON COUNTY, FLORIDA, that
JUNE 24, 2003 be hereby known as
DUNCAN MOORE DAY
in Leon County, Florida. We recognize
Duncan Moore’s contributions to the health, well-being, and
quality of life of the people of Leon County, and we express
our heartfelt thanks for his commitment to compassionate
care in our community.
