WHEREAS, STEVE BODIFORD joined the Leon
County Sheriff’s Office on October 1, 1972, and was promoted
to the rank of Captain in 1986; and
WHEREAS, Captain Bodiford worked in
many different units in the Sheriff's Office, and as Captain
he was the commander of Criminal Investigations, School
Resource Officers, Judicial Services, Crime Prevention,
Personnel and Training; and
WHEREAS, he has served Leon County
under four Sheriffs: Raymond Hamlin, Ken Katsaris, Eddie
Boone and Larry Campbell; and
WHEREAS, as a Detective and a
supervisor of investigations, he was a lead Detective on the
notorious Ted Bundy case;
WHEREAS, as Jail Director Captain
Bodiford supervised the agency's transition of corrections
operations to the new correctional facility; and
WHEREAS, Captain Bodiford was commander
of School Resource Officer Unit when the Columbine High
School tragedy occurred, and took swift action to respond to
our community needs; and
WHEREAS, he is an Honorary Lifetime
member of the Florida Sheriff's Association for his support
of the Florida Sheriff's Youth Ranches; and
WHEREAS, he coached baseball many years
in Little League, Babe Ruth League, including a year as
President of the Tallahassee Babe Ruth League, and
WHEREAS, he is a strong United Way
supporter, and served as a ‘loaned executive’ to the United
Way in 2001.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS of LEON COUNTY, FLORIDA, that
today, April, 29, 2003 is hereby declared
CAPTAIN STEVE BODIFORD
DAY
in Leon County, Florida. The Board
further recognizes his long service and selfless
contributions to the health, safety and well-being of our
community. We honor his dedicated and professional service
of 31 years to the people of Leon County. His wealth of
experience and depth of institutional knowledge will be
sorely missed.
