WHEREAS, fair housing is guaranteed to all Floridians by the Florida Fair Housing Act; and

WHEREAS, fair housing opportunity is a guaranteed right for all Americans by the Civil Rights Act of 1968; and

WHEREAS, implementation of these laws requires the commitment of government, private enterprise, and each and every citizen to the principles of fair housing; and

WHEREAS, the departments and agencies of the State of Florida and the Florida Commission on Human Relations and Leon County’s Housing and Human Services division all work to ensure that the right to fair housing opportunity is protected and defended in our community; and

WHEREAS, April 2002 marks the 34th anniversary of the National Fair Housing Act; and

WHEREAS, April has been proclaimed Fair Housing Month in the United States by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF LEON COUNTY, FLORIDA that Monday, April 22, 2002 be known as

in Leon County, and further, that the Board does hereby urge all citizens to join with us as we reaffirm our commitment to the principles of fair housing opportunity, truly the American dream.
