WHEREAS, the People of Leon County have increased their participation in the year 2000 Census by 6 percent over the 1990 Census; and
WHEREAS, The Leon County Complete Count Committee and the local Census office worked hard to reach this goal; and
WHEREAS, only 17 percent of government entities in the entire Country reached their response rate goals, and even less exceeded them as we in Leon County did; and
WHEREAS, Census enumerators are now in the field working to complete the year 2000 Census count; and
WHEREAS, it is in the interest of all citizens of Leon County to have a full and accurate count; and
WHEREAS, it is encumbent upon government leaders to promote the mission of the U.S. Census, to remind citizens that the Census is completely confidential, and that their answers are important to our community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF LEON COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the
LEON COUNTY
COMPLETE COUNT COMMITTEE
is recognized for its achievement promoting strong civic participation in the Census Mailback Program, and for working to increase the Census response rate, and that the Board further commends the efforts of the local office of the U.S. Census Bureau for its good works on behalf of the people of Leon County and of the United States.
