Volunteers Needed

Give back to Big Bend veterans by volunteering at the Leon County Veterans Day Parade! Volunteers are needed from 8 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Nov. 11, to be parade marshals, as well as custodians.

CLICK HERE for more information, or call Veteran Services at (850) 606-1940.

Applications can also be delivered to the Leon County Veteran Services Division at the Amtrak Building, 918 Railroad Avenue, Tallahassee, FL 32310.

Applications should be submitted by November 1st, but earlier submission is appreciated in order that we may appropriately assign your parade sequence.

Vehicle or mounted parade entries must comply with the following minimum insurance requirements: $10,000 Personal Injury/$20,000 Per Occurrence/$10,000 Property Damage – OR - $30,000 single-limit policy. A copy of the entrant’s current driver license and policy declaration page or insurance card reflecting required minimum coverage must be sent with the application.

All entries must respectfully honor veterans. Additionally, there are a few safety rules that are critical.

  • Throwing items into the crowd is prohibited and will result in immediate termination of your parade participation.
  • Any hand-out items such as flags, candy, beads, or other tokens should be distributed by person(s) walking along the edge of the parade route.
  • Please respect directions from parade staging and marshalling officials.

The parade will assemble along South Duval Street, south of West Call Street. All entries should check in with the Parade Registration Station at the corner of Duval and Call Streets BEFORE assuming any position along West Call Street, UNLESS you have received an advanced reserved location from Veteran Services Division staff. One knowledgeable representative per entry is sufficient to accomplish the check-in procedure. Tallahassee Police Department and Leon County Sheriff’s Department officers will close access to South Duval Street at 9:00 a.m. Entrant line up along South Duval Street will start as soon as the appropriate streets have been safely blocked. The parade will begin at 11:00 a.m. sharp and proceed south along Adams Street, turning right on Pensacola Street. The parade will turn into the Civic Center parking lot and terminate. Parade units should continue well into the parking lot before stopping in order to avoid congesting the primary parade route.

For more information, please contact the Leon County Veteran Services Division at (850) 606-1940.
