Summer Youth Training Program 2024

Leon County Government is now accepting applications for the Summer Youth Training Program. In partnership with CareerSource Capital Region, the five-week Summer Youth Training Program provides young adults ages 14-24 years old job experience by working with a Leon County department over the summer.

All positions are 20 hours per week and pay $12 per hour. Summer employment and training will run from Monday, June 10 through Friday, July 12, 2024.

Leon County and CareerSource Capital Region’s partnership gives youth more professional development opportunities through the Learn, Earn and Advance Program (LEAP), a training program for young adults. CareerSource Capital Region will help youth learn important skills such as goal-setting, budgeting, time management, customer service and so much more.

What is the Summer Youth Training Program (SYTP)?

The Summer Youth Training Program is presented in partnership with Leon County and CareerSource Capital Region. The 5 week program provides young adults ages 14-24 years old work experience during the summer in Leon County Government. The program starts on Monday, June 10, 2024 with the Mandatory Dynamic Futures training with CareerSource and ends on Friday, July 12, 2024. The salary is $12 /hr. 

What are the qualifications?
  • Between 14-24 Years Old (a few select positions are available for 14 & 15 year olds)
  • Leon County Resident
  • Able to commit to all 5 weeks, 20 hours a week
  • Must attend required Dynamic Futures Training

Preference will be given to those that meet the “at risk” CareerSource Dynamic Futures Program Criteria

  • Between 16-24 Years Old
  • Not currently enrolled in high school or college
  • Must attend required Dynamic Futures Training
When will the application link be available?

The online application link will open on Monday, March 11, 2024 (8 a.m. EST) and will close on Friday, April 19, 2024 (5 p.m EST). You must complete and submit your online application by 5:00 pm, May 5.

How many positions can I apply for?

You may apply for a maximum of two positions.

What if I do not have a computer at home?

If you do not have access to a computer at home, use your school computer lab or go to any Leon County Public Library or CareerSource Capital Region location.

Will I be eligible if I will be 14 before the program start date?

You will be eligible to participate as long as you are 14 years old by the program start date on June 10, 2024.

How many hours can I work? What times will I work?

Participants can work up to 20 hours/week. The exact days and times can be negotiated with supervisors.

What will I learn during the additional required training?

Throughout the Summer Youth Training Employment Program, participants will participate in CareerSource Capital Region’s Dynamic Futures training. During this training, they will learn professional soft skills like time management, presentation, and networking along with leadership, goal setting, post-secondary and career exploration, and financial literacy. The Dynamic Future sessions provide an engaging environment that includes group activities and practical learning experiences.

Do I need to call to confirm my application was received?

No. You can print a copy of your application when you submit your application.

When will I be contacted?

If you are chosen to come in for an interview, you will be contacted in June. Applicants not chosen will receive emails before the start of the program.
